10400 South, Bangerter Highway to Redwood Road

Project Overview

The 10400 South project will widen the roadway between Bangerter Highway and Redwood Road to include two travel lanes in each direction and a center median. In addition, the project will include intersection improvements, bicycle lanes, 10-foot shoulders, curb and gutter, and six-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway. Construction will begin in the fall of 2008 and will take approximately 14 months to reach substantial completion.

Project Highlights

Improved operational characteristics:

  • Five-lane width expansion; four travel lanes with center median/left turn lane
  • 10-foot shoulders for improved bus service (loading and unloading)
  • Six-foot sidewalks, curb and gutter, and parkstrips along both sides of corridor
  • Class II bicycle lanesone striped-and-signed lane on each side for one-way bicycle travel
  • Raised center island medians at some locations for safety, access control and access management

Intersection improvements at 2200 West, 2700 West, and 3200 West

  • Dedicated right and/or left turn lanes
  • Upgraded traffic signals (TSM Strategies)

Utility upgrades/improvements

  • 10-foot public utility easements
  • Overhead utilities to be placed underground
  • Replace existing culinary water lines
  • Storm-drain system improvements along corridor
  • Irrigation pipes and ditches
  • New natural gas line installation

Substantial Completion:   Late Fall 2009
