Study Profile:
The 11400 South EIS will examine transportation needs and possible solutions to transportation issues in southern Salt Lake County. An EIS is a detailed evaluation of the environmental effects of a proposed action and alternatives. A previous environmental study was conducted in 2000 for a proposed freeway interchange at 11400 South and I-15 and an east-west roadway connection of 11400 South. Based on this study, the FHWA issued a Finding of No Significant Impact for proceeding with the interchange and roadway connection project. However, this finding was challenged through legal proceedings. As a result, the study area was expanded and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) began conducting a more detailed EIS in May 2003. The EIS is anticipated to be complete and a Record of Decision (ROD) signed by FHWA in September 2005.

Who is involved:
The EIS process involves the public; FHWA; UDOT; the four communities in the study area, including portions of Draper City, Riverton City, Sandy City, and South Jordan City; other State and Federal agencies; and other outside parties.
