The project team has identified a wide range of global alternatives that may or may not meet the project purpose. The global alternatives are very general and do not include specific design details and do not identify impacts to individual properties. If a traffic analysis determines that a global alternative may meet the project purpose, it will be further developed to include options for specific design details (such as the number of lanes and the type of interchange).
The draft project purpose is to address current operational and safety conditions and future 2040 traffic needs by:
-Reducing congestion on the 1800 North study corridor
-Improving mobility and access to I-15 for the 1800 North study corridor
-Improving safety and operational characteristics on the 1800 North study corridor
We want your input on the range of alternatives that has been developed (see below). Are there any other alternatives that the project team should consider? Please let us know here.
The No-action Alternative includes maintaining 1800 North in its current roadway configuration. This alternative assumes that short-term minor restoration (safety and maintenance) activities that maintain continued operation of the existing roadway facility would be ongoing. It will also serve as a baseline for comparing the impacts that would occur with the build alternatives.
Transportation System Management (TSM) Alternative
The TSM Alternative includes activities that are intended to improve traffic flow and provide limited capacity improvements without building new travel lanes. This alternatives focuses on strategies to maximize the efficiency of the existing system through activites that inculde intersection improvements, turn lanes, signal coordination and optimization, ramp metering, auxiliary lanes, Intelligent Transportation Systmes (ITS), ridesharing, transit promotion, flexible work hours, and access management to reduce conflicts.
The Transit Alternative would include improving the existing transit system in the study area and may include additional bus turnouts, additionaly commuter rail trains, light-rail, enhanced bus service, or Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
