The State Environmental Study of 3500 South divided the project into two phases for design and construction:
- Phase 1 – 2200 West (Decker Lake Drive) to 2700 West (Constitution Boulevard)
- Phase 2 – 2700 West (Constitution Boulevard) to Bangerter Highway.
Phase 1 design is complete. Advertising and construction of this phase is pending funding prioritization. When funding is available and construction moves forward, Phase 1 will add one additional travel lane in each direction under I-215. Interstate off- and on-ramp improvements are also planned, as well as landscape enhancements. No right of way impacts are expected with Phase 1.
Phase 2 is complete. Phase 2 will widen 3500 South from two to three lanes in each direction and will coordinate design with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) for inclusion of center-running Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Phase 2 will also include several utility relocations. UDOT Right-of-Way staff are working now to finalize property acquisitions necessary to construct the project. The project is expected to be advertised for construction by summer 2008. Construction is anticipated to begin by early fall 2008.
