Work Zone Safety Awareness Campaign:
UDOT and Granite Construction recently teamed to present a work zone safety awareness campaign to Drivers' Education classes at Granger High School.  The team instructed students on safe driving and pedestrian behavior in work zones.  The presentations also included a work zone signage module and testimonials from actual construction workers.  The team wishes to thank Principal Arthur Cox and Driver's Ed. instructor, Mike Folster, for coordinating the visits.  Following are student winners of the work zone signage contest.

MORE LANES, MORE OPTIONS: The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and Utah Transit Authority (UTA) are joining forces to reduce congestion and provide more transportation options along the vital 3500 South corridor. Planned improvements include:

  • Widening the roadway to three travel lanes in each direction

  • Constructing dedicated Bus-Rapid-Transit (BRT) lanes in the center median

  • Replacing the asphalt with a new concrete surface

  • Installing new curb, gutter and sidewalk

  • Construction on 3500 South will take place in two sections:

  • Bangerter Highway to 2700 West: This section is fully designed and construction is underway.

  • 2700 West to Decker Lake Drive: Construction dates and funding for this section of 3500 South have not been determined. Before construction, a traffic study will be completed on the 3500 South/I-215 interchange to determine if any modifications should be made.
