5400 SOUTH FROM BANGERTER HIGHWAY TO 4800 WEST
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has completed a State Environmental Study for 5400 South from Bangerter Highway to 4800 West in the communities of Kearns and Taylorsville. The need to widen 5400 South was identified by local community leaders and formalized in the Wasatch Front Regional Council Long Range Plan. For more information see the Project History.
UDOT held a public hearing in May to present the 5400 South preferred alternative and solicit public comments. The study team considered comments, along with information gathered during the scoping process, to finalize the road alignment. The final study document includes all comments received and a response to each comment.
UDOT will continue to partner with Salt Lake County to communicate with the public during property acquisition, design and construction. Ongoing public communication will help UDOT improve traffic and safety in the area while minimizing impacts to residents, businesses and the traveling public.

Current Activities
UDOT has finalized the project design and is awaiting bids from construction contractors to complete the project. UDOT released the Request for Proposal (RFP) in December 2011 and plans to choose a contractor before March.
Once a contractor is chosen, the project team will have a better idea of the construction timeline. Construction as well as updated public outreach will begin toward the end of February or in March. The goal is to complete construction by the end of 2012.
