Bluff Street businesses and residents weigh in on future improvements

Business owners and operators and residents living on or near Bluff Street are working with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to develop a plan for future improvements to Bluff Street between St. George Boulevard and Red Hills Parkway.
UDOT held the first round of working group meetings with business people and residents in late March.

Serving on the Stakeholder Working Group, which is resident-focused, are the following:

Richard Kohler, Sunstone Condominiums
Leon Kennedy, The Ridge at St. George
Kent Perkins, City of SG Director of Leisure Services (Bluff Street Park)
Robert Amoroso, resident
Thales Derrick, Community Action Team #1
Curt Hutchings, St. George Metropolitan Planning Organization
Mark Goble, City of SG Parks and Recreation

The Business Working Group, which is focused on business impacts, consists of the following:

Tom Glade, Cherry Creek Radio
Ed Cox, Executive Director, St. George Chamber of Commerce
LaRene Cox, Colorland Sales and Service
Matt Loo, City of SG Director of Development Services (Dixie Red Hills Golf Course)
Gilbert Jennings, President, JMI
Sam Stoddard, Sherwin Williams

Both working groups raised the issues of loss of parking, acquisition of businesses, and landscaping.

UDOT's environmental study of Bluff Street covers the section of highway from St. George Boulevard to Red Hills Parkway. Funds for that final design, land acquisition and construction have not been identified in UDOT's work program.

H.W. Lochner, an engineering firm, plans to have the UDOT study completed by Spring of 2012.
