Environmental Re-Evaluation Update

  • proposed design changes addressed in the re-eval have not changed the purpose and need and scope of the overall project
  • environmental impacts have not changed significantly from the original environmental assessment
  • the original finding of no significant impact remains valid.

The FHWA determination means the project can move forward with connecting Hinckley Drive to Midland Drive with a signalized intersection at 3600 South, rather than the free-flow configuration originally presented in the Environmental Assessment.

UDOT will have more information at a public open house tentatively scheduled for late May or early June. Watch for a postcard and newspaper ad announcing details of the meeting.

Project Background

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is proposing to extend Hinckley Drive (S.R. 79) westward from 1900 West (S.R. 126) to Midland Drive (S.R. 108). The project includes a new signalized intersection at Midland Drive and 3600 South in West Haven. The proposed improvements will allow for greater east-west mobility in the area.

UDOT completed an Environmental Assessment (EA) of the project in 2002. The preferred alternative was presented at the Public Hearing and included a free flow configuration at Midland Drive and 3600 South. UDOT modified the design to include a signalized intersection instead because it believes that the proposed design would better serve the transportation needs of the community.

The change in design required the re-evaluation. The documents are available for download via the links below. The document has been divided into four section for downloading. The file are up to 4MB in size and require Adobe Reader to view.
