Welcome to the I-80, State Street to 1300 East, Project Web Site

 

New Information:

I-215 East 3300 South Bridge Replacement

The bridge moves are complete and all cross streets have been re-opened.

Ramp Closures:

  • State Street* - All ramps are open
  • 700 East* - The westbound off-ramp is closed through early October; the westbound and eastbound on-ramps are closed through fall; the eastbound off-ramp is open
  • 1300 East- The westbound on-ramp (loop ramp) is closed through early winter

*The westbound State Street and 700 East off-ramps will alternate closures through Fall 2008.

Project Description

The I-80, State Street to 1300 East project is well underway. Work is currently taking place along the north side of I-80.

As a part of this project, the following improvements will be constructed:

  • Additional General Purpose Lane: Eastbound and Westbound
  • Interchange Improvements at State Street, 700 East, and 1300 East
  • Auxiliary Lane between Each Interchange: Eastbound and Westbound
  • Retaining Walls to Reduce Right-of-Way Impacts
  • Residential Noise/SoundWalls in Qualified Areas (for more information about residential noise walls, click here)
  • New Concrete Pavement
  • New Bridges at State Street (funding pending), 300 East, 500 East, 600 East, 700 East, 900 East, and Highland Drive

FINE SCHEDULE

The speed limit in the construction zone has been lowered to 55 miles per hour. The Utah Highway Patrol will be STRICTLY enforcing the speed limit.

Vehicles stopped since March 22, 2008: 470

Motorists that are speeding within the construction zone will be assessed the following fines:

Safety Information
- Lanes have been reduced to 11 feet in width

- Please be courteous when traveling through the construction zone

- Allow other drivers to merge and changes lanes as necessary

- Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road

- The speed limit has been lowered to 55 miles per hour; speeders will be ticketed

Truck Detour Information
In order to reduce impacts along this narrow corridor of I-80, UDOT, in association with the Utah Trucking Association, is strongly advising all truck drivers to use alternate routes during construction. Please click here for a detour map. All wide loads are prohibited on I-80 from State Street to 1300 East.

 

The following is an overview of the project’s construction schedule*:

Phase I: Began Late August 2007 - COMPLETED
Temporarily widen the eastbound bridges and construct crossovers at each end of the project to accommodate 5 lanes of traffic (3 lanes / 2 lanes).

Phase II: Began December 8, 2007 - IN PROGRESS
Reconstruction of the westbound lanes.

Phase III: Begins Fall 2008 - PRELIMINARY WORK UNDERWAY
Reconstruction of the eastbound lanes.

Phase IV: Begins Summer 2009
Completion of the eastbound lanes.

Project Schedule: This project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2009.

*Project schedule subject to change due to weather delays, right-of-way, and equipment related issues.
