Noise Walls:
UDOT is committed to providing reasonable and feasible noise reduction for highway-related traffic noise. Noise reduction was considered in the I-15 NOW project area during the environmental process. Five specific areas within Farr West, Ogden, Riverdale and West Haven were identified as potential locations for noise reduction.
UDOT policy requires that residents and local governments approve each proposed barrier location before a barrier can be constructed. The policy requires a vote in favor from:
- 75 % or more of the "front row" residents/landowners.
- 67 % or more of other impacted residents/landowners.
If UDOT does not receive the required percentage of votes in favor from residents and local governments, noise reduction is not implemented in that area. Also, noise reduction for that area will not be reconsidered until a future transportation project meets consideration criteria.
The I-15 NOW team surveyed residents and landowners in all five areas, described in the table below, between May and September 2005, with the following results:
| City | East/West of I-15 | Passing Vote |
| Farr West | East | Yes |
| Farr West | West | Yes |
| Ogden | East | No |
| Riverdale | East | Yes |
| West Haven | West | Yes |

The selected noise reduction for the I-15 NOW project is a noise wall. When installed, the walls will be 12-18 ft high depending on the area and will reduce noise impact generated by the project's expanded lanes and improved interchanges. The exact design of each noise wall and an installation schedule will be made available to the public as each becomes available.
