Welcome to the I-80, State Street to 1300 East, Project Web Site

 

New Information:

The I-80, State Street to 1300 East project is 99% complete and all ramps are open. Crews will be on-site through December finishing painting, fencing and landscaping.

Please remember the speed limit on I-80, within the construction zone, will remain lowered until all work has been completed.

Project Survey

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) would like your feedback on the project. Your input will improve performance and enhance customer service before, during, and after construction on future projects. Please follow this link to complete a brief survey regarding your experience with the project. We welcome all comments but don’t wait—the survey closes on December 18th.

All dates are subject to change due to weather and the construction schedule. The dates above are estimated and may change as construction progresses.

Project Description

The I-80, State Street to 1300 East project is 99% complete.

As a part of this project, the following improvements were constructed:

  • Additional General Purpose Lane: Eastbound and Westbound
  • Interchange Improvements at State Street, 700 East, and 1300 East
  • Auxiliary Lane between Each Interchange: Eastbound and Westbound
  • Retaining Walls to Reduce Right-of-Way Impacts
  • Residential Noise/SoundWalls in Qualified Areas
  • New Concrete Pavement
  • New Bridges at 300 East, 500 East, 600 East, 700 East, 900 East, and Highland Drive. The State Street bridge received a deck replacement.

FINE SCHEDULE

The speed limit in the construction zone has been lowered to 55 miles per hour. The Utah Highway Patrol will be STRICTLY enforcing the speed limit.

Vehicles stopped since March 22, 2008: OVER 3500

Motorists that are speeding within the construction zone will be assessed the following fines:

Safety Information
- Lanes have been reduced to 11 feet in width

- Please be courteous when traveling through the construction zone

- Allow other drivers to merge and changes lanes as necessary

- Avoid distractions and keep your eyes on the road

- The speed limit has been lowered to 55 miles per hour; speeders will be ticketed

Truck Detour Information
In order to reduce impacts along this narrow corridor of I-80, UDOT, in association with the Utah Trucking Association, is strongly advising all truck drivers to use alternate routes during construction. Please click here for a detour map. All wide loads are prohibited on I-80 from State Street to 1300 East.

 

The following is an overview of the project’s construction schedule*:

Phase I: Began Late August 2007 - COMPLETED
Temporarily widen the eastbound bridges and construct crossovers at each end of the project to accommodate 5 lanes of traffic (3 lanes / 2 lanes).

Phase II: Began December 8, 2007 -COMPLETED
Reconstruction of the westbound lanes.

Phase III: Begins Fall 2008 - COMPLETED
Reconstruction of the eastbound lanes.

Phase IV: Begins Summer 2009 - 95% COMPLETE
Completion of the eastbound lanes, landscaping, noise walls, and punch list items.

Project Schedule: This project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2009.
