Innovate 80UDOT is employing advanced technology to accelerate construction and reduce delays on Innovate 80, which encompasses six projects along the I-80 Corridor. These technologies include Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC), a reversible barrier system and design/build construction. ABC, which will reduce delays from months to days saving motorists millions of dollars in lost work hours and wasted gasoline, will be used to replace 12 bridges along the I-80 corridor in a two-month period from late June through early August 2008. This currently is the largest and most ambitious bridge building project of its kind in the world. In addition to replacing bridges, Innovate 80 will also add two new lanes in each direction of I-80 from State Street to 1300 East, add new lanes between Kimball Junction and Silver Creek, provide new concrete in Parleys Canyon (which will significantly reduce potholes for years to come) as well as provide several safety improvements.
