Innovation in 2009: Innovation will be employed again during the 2009 summer construction season along the I-80 corridor. This year four I-80 bridges will be replaced using Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC): 2300 East, 2500 East and two bridges at Echo Junction. In addition, other projects on or near the I-80 corridor will be using the reversible lane system to allow better traffic flow during peak travel times. These approaches will significantly reduce delays and save the public millions of dollars from lost work and wasted gasoline.

2008 Recap: Innovate 80 replaced 12 bridges on or near the I-80 corridor in a period of less than two months during the summer of 2008. UDOT improved the process with each bridge replacement resulting in saving time and user cost such as lost work hours wasted gasoline. The following are some facts regarding the project:

• Innovate 80 is believed to be the fastest replacement of 12 bridges in the world
• The eastbound Parleys Canyon bridge replacements were completed in 16 hours, which was the fastest known bridge replacement for two structures in North America
• The 3300 South Bridge replacement was the fastest ever replacement for a single-span structure in Utah
