Staying Safe

So, you may think you've got the safety thing down to a system - you buckle up whenever you're in the car, you always wear a helmet when riding your bike and you most definitely walk home from school facing oncoming traffic. But that's not all you need to know when it comes to your safety and traffic. It takes traffic signs and signals, a traffic operations center and your help avoiding dangerous situations to keep everyone safe.

What in the world is a "Traffic Operations Center"?

Picture an enormous, two-story tall wall of television screens and computer monitors all showing traffic conditions, weather conditions and accident sites. That's UDOT's Traffic Operations Center: a super high-tech facility designed to show us exactly what the problems are out there and what we can do to fix it. With weather sensors and over 200 traffic cameras all around the city (and the state really!) we're on top of traffic conditions faster than you can say "are we there yet?"
