Getting a road up and running and keeping it moving safely takes the work of a lot of people. From the engineers who design the road to the guys who are out there keeping it clear of dangerous debris, a safe, efficient roadway is a group effort. Here are a few of the people responsible for our roadways:
|
| |
 |
Design Engineer:
The Design Engineer is responsible for designing road projects that meet specific highway design requirements. They use specialized computer software to create and assemble roadway plans and help write guidelines, called specifications, to help a contractor actually build a project. The design engineer works with a team of other engineers to make sure a project meets the transportation needs and fits within the surrounding natural and man-made environment.

Resident Engineer:
This engineer makes sure a road project is built correctly. This person manages the project by overseeing the day-to-day operations, making sure UDOT inspectors are available and working with the contractor to ensure that the quality of the work is as good as it can be.

 |
Maintenance Station Employees:
These people are the backbone of UDOT. Each maintenance crew is responsible for maintaining and preserving state and federal highways. Some of their tasks include plowing snow, repairing the highways, installing signs and reflector posts and keeping the roads clear of litter and debris.

 |
Incident Management Team or IMT:
The Incident Management Team patrols major state highways, primarily the freeways, providing help to stranded motorists and assisting emergency response teams by setting up traffic control devices to keep traffic moving in an orderly fashion. They also help clear major obstacles from state highways.

 |
Project Managers:
The project manager oversees a highway project from start to finish. They are the team leaders and make sure UDOT projects stay within a specified budget and are completed on time. They also manage or assist city and county government project teams on projects that receive federal transportation funds.
