Collaborative Planning and Adaptive Management
In 2005, UDOT established a Collaborative Design Team (CDT) to develop an adaptive management plan for the Legacy Nature Preserve. The Team consists of representatives from groups and individuals with special interest and expertise in preserve planning and management. The CDT initiated planning efforts by developing a mission statement that encompasses the management objectives of the Preserve:
The Legacy Nature Preserve provided in perpetuity quality wildlife habitats for the purpose of mitigation impacts to wetlands and wildlife associated with the Legacy Parkway.
Through a 2-year collaborative planning effort, the CDT developed an adaptive management plan and accompanying resource plans. These plans were completed in February 2007 and are now being implemented on the Preserve to restore and improve wetland and upland habitats for wildlife. As the plans are implemented, the CDT is transitioning into an advisory group to help guide site management strategies and monitoring activities on the Preserve. Additionally a Science Advisory Committee (SAC) comprised of qualified scientists from universities and resource agencies will guide scientific study in the Preserve.
