Getting Around
Continued access to your business, place of employment or favorite shopping area is a priority for UDOT.
Discover the New, New Bingham Highway
In early November 2011, New Bingham Highway was realigned to connect to a new extension of 9000 South. 5600 West was also widened to two lanes in each direction. These changes will accommodate a new intersection and future freeway interchange at 9000 South where it crosses MVC. Watch the video below to learn how to navigated the new alignment. Alternate Routes
Old Bingham Highway Temporary Road Closure Map
Crews have temporarily closed Old Bingham Highway at approximately 5700 West where it intersects with the Mountain View Corridor. This closure will allow crews to reconstruct the roadway to tie-in to the Mountain View Corridor. This closure will be in place until late June 2012*. Detour routes are available by using 5600 West to Dannon Way to Prosperity Road. Please adjust your travel accordingly.
6200 South Temporary Road Closure Map
Beginning April 23, 2012* crews will temporarily close 6200 South at approximately 6300 West where it will connect to the Mountain View Corridor. Traveling Safely through the Project Area
UDOT and its contractors are doing what we can to build the project as quickly and safely as possible, and you can help. As you drive through the project, please:
- Slow down and drive the posted speed limit
- Plan ahead by giving yourself extra travel time
- Use an alternate route when possible
- Keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you
- Stay calm if you are delayed
- Minimize distractions (using your cell phone, eating, text messaging, etc...)
- Pay close attention to occasional changes in the project routes and detours
- Obey flaggers and construction signs
Child Safety: Please keep a close eye on children when near the construction area. Warn your children not to play in or near the work area, especially where trenches or heavy equipment are present. Visit the Think Safety page for tips and materials to help keep your children safe.
Transportation Options
- TravelWise: Traveling in a construction zone can be challenging. UDOT has created a program called TravelWise, a set of strategies and tactics that will help ease the construction challenge. Many TravelWise strategies are easy to implement and will help you carry on with your life without sacrificing efficiency, productivity or even money. And hey, you'll be doing us all a service by helping to reduce energy consumption, improve air quality and reduce traffic. For more information, visit www.travelwise.utah.gov.
- Public Transit: Public transportation is a great alternative to navigating through construction areas. For light rail and bus maps, schedules and other information about public transportation, please visit www.rideuta.com
- Bikes and Trails: Get out and be active! Take advantage of the many bike paths and trails in your community. For more information, please visit http://stateparks.utah.gov/trails
