The Utah Department of Transportation, in coordination with Cedar City, began the South Cedar Interchange reconstruction in early March 2014. Crews have reconstructed Cross Hollow Road and reconfigured the I-15 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). These improvements will accommodate future travel demand and improve safety.
The new DDI opened on August 25, 2014 and construction is anticipated to be complete in early October 2014.
A diverging diamond interchange briefly channels traffic to the opposite side of the road to provide easier and safer access on and off the freeway. This configuration reduces the number of traffic signal phases, which allows traffic to proceed through the interchange more efficiently without increasing the number of lanes. When traveling through the DDI, we encourage drivers to:
- Slow down and be alert
- Follow the arrows and signage
- Water for both sets of signals (one on each side of I-15)
