The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) performed concrete rehabilitation work on I-15 in northern Box Elder County. The work took place on a 15-mile stretch of freeway in both northbound and southbound lanes between Riverside (SR-30) and the Idaho state line.
UDOT used a dowel bar retrofit process – installing epoxy coated steel rods between concrete pavement joints. This process:
- Improved roadway surface stabilization by transferring vehicle loads from one concrete panel to the next
- Extended life of the current pavement and helped the roadway withstand potential cracking at pavement joints
