Bridge Preservation

Bridges are one of UDOT's most expensive assets in regards to current investment as well as cost to replace. For this reason the bridge preservation program funds the asset management strategies necessary to maintain Utah's bridges. The program is primarily funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and is used for many bridge related activities such as protecting bridge decks, cleaning expansion joints and maintaining bearings. Neglecting bridge preservation efforts can increase the rate of bridge deterioration, reduce the bridge life expectancy and require major bridge rehabilitation or replacement at a much higher cost.
