Project Background

PROJECT BACKGROUND & OVERVIEW

The project is located in Salt Lake County along Redwood Road (State Route [S.R.] 68) beginning at the 104th South intersection in South Jordan and continuing to the 126th South intersection in Riverton.

The project is an urban reconstruction and widening project with raised median treatments, side street realignments, and various utility and irrigation easements. By the design year, traffic is expected to nearly double, and traffic is already diverting to local roads to avoid congestion. Even with the project, intersections will remain congested, but the overall average delay will decrease more than 30%.

On March 7, 2005, a Final Environmental Study (ES) was completed for Redwood Road between 104th South to Bangerter Highway, and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) approved the project's Preferred Alternative.  This construction project will complete the section between 104th South and 126th South.  The remaining section from 126th South to Bangerter Highway will commence once funding becomes available.

FAQ'S - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the project?

The project consists of widening on both sides of Redwood Road from 10400 South to 12600 South. The new roadway will include:

  • Two travel lanes in each direction and a median/left turn lane
  • 10-foot shoulders with a striped 4-foot bicycle lane
  • Raised medians, dual-left turn lanes, and right turn pockets at major intersections
  • Right turn pockets at future signalized intersections
  • Continuous curb, gutter, and sidewalk

When did construction start?

Construction started July 17th and the concrete pavement section is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.

How will construction be phased?

During the first construction season, the contractor relocated utilities and made improvements to water and storm drain systems. The second construction season includes roadway widening/paving. Traffic in each direction will be maintained but there may be limited nighttime closures on Redwood Road.

Will I be able to use my driveway or business access?

Driveway replacement will be completed as efficiently as possible to minimize disruption to property owners. Property owners will be notified 7 days in advance when driveways need to be closed for replacement during concrete placement.

When will the portion south of 126th South be built?

The legislature has not appropriated funding for construction of Redwood Road from 126th South to Bangerter Highway.

How will mail be handled during construction?

The contractor will be responsible to provide access and accommodations for emergency vehicles, mail delivery, trash pick-up and snow removal during construction.  Garbage pick-up continues as currently scheduled.  In some cases P.O. Boxes are being used for mail delivery.

What will happen to the UTA busing during construction?

If you have questions regarding this, please call UTA @ 1-888-RIDE-UTA.

How will Jordan School District provide busing for children attending Rosamond Elementary during construction?

The district has provided busing for children living east of Redwood Road between 1300 West and 1700 West during construction.

Are new signals being installed with this project?

Yes, two new signals will be installed, one at 10610 South in South Jordan and another at 12300 South. The signal at 12300 South will include a school crossing for children attending Rosamond Elementary School. This safer crossing will replace the current crossing at 12120 South.
