Project Overview

The purpose of the project is to improve mobility and safety along Riverdale Road. Upon project completion, Riverdale Road will be better equipped to handle peak levels of traffic now and in the future, through the year 2030. Congestion will be reduced and safety increased with the following:

Riverdale Road East (Weber River to Chimes View Drive, 2009-2010)

• Add one lane each direction from Weber River to Wall Avenue, and an eastbound lane from Wall Avenue to Chimes View Drive.

Riverdale Road West (I-84-Weber River, 2008-2009)

• Rebuilt the I-84 interchange to a more efficient single point urban interchange (SPUI).
• Added one lane each direction from I-84 to Weber River.

Both Riverdale Road Segments (I-84 to Chimes View Drive, 2008-2010)

• Pave with low-maintenance 40-year concrete.
• Install additional turn lanes at major intersections.
• Replace traffic signals with state-of-the-art vehicle detection and coordination.
• Construct bus pullouts and consolidate driveways.
• Install a CCTV and traffic monitoring station at I-84 for the CommuterLink traffic information system.
• Upgrade underground drainage, water, sewer, and other utilities along the corridor.

Future Improvements

• Replace the I-15 structure with a wider structure.
• Install a CCTV and traffic monitoring station at I-15 for the CommuterLink traffic information system.

The Riverdale Road project will benefit motorists, businesses, and other stakeholders by:

• Increasing the corridor's capacity to handle traffic by 35%, which is expected to accommodate traffic through 2030.
• Reducing travel time through the corridor by 25%.
• Reducing average traffic delays at intersections by 40% through 2030.
• Providing safe and efficient access to all businesses and properties.
• Minimizing delays of future pavement, bridge, and/or utility maintenance.
• Increasing safety and traffic flow by decreasing vehicle conflicts.

Project Funding

Riverdale Road improvements have been funded in two segments: previously for work from I-84 to the Weber River, and in 2009 for improvements from the Weber River to Chimes View Drive. Additional funds will be needed for future improvements to the I-15 interchange.
