Alternatives

Six alternatives were considered including the No-Action Alternative and Lane Addition Alternatives A through E. The Lane Addition Alternatives include six travel lanes from I-15 to Wall Avenue/40th Street, five travel lanes from Wall Avenue/40th Street to Chimes View Drive, and four travel lanes from 36th Street to Washington Boulevard. Each Lane Addition Alternative evaluated different alignment shifts along the 3.7-mile project corridor.

All Lane Addition Alternatives have the following elements:

  • New travel lanes added
  • Dedicated right-turn and left-turn lanes
  • New signal at 500 West
  • Increased bus service
  • Reconfigured interchange at I-84
  • New bridge over I-15 with additional on and off ramps
  • Intersection improvements at 1150 West (left turns from Riverdale Road would be eliminated)

As the project progressed, five different alignment options between 600 West and Chimes View Drive were identified. These Lane Addition Alternatives were:

  • Lane Addition Alternative A – Between 600 West and Chimes View Drive, the widening of the proposed roadway would be primarily to the north of the existing roadway.
  • Lane Addition Alternative B – Between 600 West and Chimes View Drive, the widening of the proposed roadway would be symmetrical about the existing roadway.
  • Lane Addition Alternative C – Between 600 West and Chimes View Drive, the roadway would be widened primarily to the south of the existing roadway.
  • Lane Addition Alternative D – Between 600 West and Chimes View Drive, the widening of the proposed roadway would be on both sides of the existing roadway with a slight shift to the south.
  • Lane Addition Alternative E (Preferred Alternative) – Between 600 West and Chimes View Drive, the widening of the proposed roadway would be on both sides of the existing roadway with a slight shift to the south. Between Chimes View Drive and 37th Street, the widening of the proposed roadway would be symmetrical about the existing roadway. Between 37th Street and Harris Street, the proposed roadway widening would be on both sides of the existing roadway with a slight shift to the south.
