SR-68 Schedule and Impacts

Project Update: 6/27/08

As of this week, no passing will be allowed in areas of the project where there is no center turn lane. A double yellow line will be painted to indicate these areas. Please drive carefully in the work zone.

Below are the planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.

  • Crews will continue excavation and grading activities this week between approximately 14600 South and the Saratoga Springs northern city limit. All work will stay inside the UDOT Right-of-Way.
  • No passing will be allowed in the areas of SR-68 between Bangerter Highway and Saratoga Springs where there is no center turn lane. Please refrain from passing in these areas. A double yellow line will be painted this week indicating these sections.
  • Flaggers are at work in the construction area in order to assist trucks on and off of the roadway. Please observe reduced speed limits and drive carefully in the work zone.
  • Please do not use the construction areas for biking or exercising. Lanes are narrow in the work zone and the road surface is uneven, making the area unsafe for such activities.

Schedule

UDOT selected a design/build team in February - lead by Geneva Rock. The project team then began construction operations in April in areas where design and any necessary property acquisitions were complete.

A first priority remains acquiring any necessary right-of-way to construct the project. The design/build team has a project-dedicated right-of-way team for the project. As design is finalized and property impacts are known, this team will be working on a parcel-by-parcel basis with any affected property owners.

As construction gets underway, motorists and citizens can expect some delay, with narrowed lanes and occasional detours. The project team will work to keep residential and business accesses open as much as possible.

Additional schedule and impact details will be posted here as the project gets underway. Please check back occasionally.
