2000 West Syracuse to West Point

Work Activities This Week (11/23-11/30)

  • Striping work will begin on the west side of 2000 West between 700 S. and SR-193 on Wednesday, Nov. 22 in preparation for opening the new lanes to traffic next Wednesday, Nov. 29.
  • No work will occur on Thursday, Nov. 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Minimal, if any, intermittent utility work will take place from Nov. 24 through Nov. 26.
  • Concrete paving and cure time of curb, gutter, and driveways on the west side of 2000 W. from 700 S. to SR-193 is underway and is expected to continue through early next week. (**Note: Please keep off of newly poured concrete. No vehicles are allowed on newly placed concrete during cure time.)
  • Pedestrian ramps and sidewalk are being installed between Heritage Parkway and 300 N. throughout the next two weeks. 
  • Landscaping crews will be working between 300 N. and 700 S. through November, including installation of top soil, sprinklers, sod, and mailboxes.
  • Culinary water, storm drain, and sewer work continues on the west side of 2000 West from Heritage Parkway to the 300 North intersection through November. Street light boxes and traffic signal foundations are also being installed throughout that area.
  • Drainage pipe will be installed near 1175 S. following the Thanksgiving holiday and will take about two weeks to complete.
  • West Point City waterline work continues to take place at the 300 N. intersection until next week, with additional utility work in the area through winter 2018.
  • Asphalt tie-in work will take place in intermittent locations along the 2000 West corridor from 300 North to Heritage Parkway. 
  • Utility companies continue working throughout the project area between Antelope Drive and 300 North.
  • Miscellaneous grading and finish work will take place throughout the project corridor through November to wrap things up for winter.


Traffic Alerts

  • Traffic has been shifted to the north side of the 2000 West and 700 South intersection, as work on the south side of the intersection continues.
  • No street parking will be available along the east side of 2000 West from Heritage Parkway to 300 North through winter 2018.
  • No parking is allowed within 50 feet of the newly installed HAWK Signal near Syracuse Elementary and Syracuse Jr. High.
  • Intermittent turn lane, shoulder, and median restrictions may occur. 
  • Starting Wednesday, Nov. 29, traffic will be switched over to new lane configurations for the winter.

      • One Lane Each Direction:
        • Antelope Drive to Heritage Parkway
      • Southbound:
        • Two lanes from Heritage Parkway to 300 N.
      • Northbound:
        • Two lanes from Heritage Parkway to SR-193
        • One lane from SR-193 to 300 N.
      • 150 North, West Point:
        • Right turn in, right turn out only through Spring 2018
        • Please consider 100 N., 250 N., 1750 West, and 300 N. as alternate routes

Segment One of the 2000 West Reconstruction project, which is the east side of the road between 700 South and SR-193, is completed and open to traffic. This segment was expedited in order to ensure that the work in front of Syracuse High School, would be completed prior to the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year. Work is now taking place on the west side of the roadway.  

Pedestrian Crosswalk And Sidewalk

• Please be aware of pedestrian crossings and sidewalk closures on the west side of the 700 South/2000 West intersection. 

HAWK Signal

Location:1503 South 2000 West – Near Syracuse Elementary/Jr. High

• When using the HAWK:
1. Push the button and wait for the signal lights to turn on
2. Look Left
3. Look Right
4. Look Left one more time, and . . . 
5. Make eye contact with the driver of an approaching vehicle, so that you make sure that you see them, and that they see you and understand that you want to cross.
6. Cross the street ONLY when the WALK symbol is on and the vehicle has stopped, or completely passed the crosswalk



Trail Closure 
Trail areas near the SR-193 intersection and 2000 West, moving westward to 3000 West, is scheduled to remain closed through winter 2017.  Please consider alternate routes. 


Utility Shutoffs
Utility companies may schedule intermittent shutoffs to accomplish their work.  They will provide advance notice where applicable.    

West Point Batch Plant Operations
• The West Point Batch Plant near 75 North and 2000 West in West Point is operational and will continue operations through early winter 2017.
• Nearby residents and businesses should expect increased noise, light and vibration associated with construction.

SR-193 Extension: 3000 West

The UDOT SR-193 Extension Project continues construction activities with project completion scheduled for late December.

  • Concrete paving is nearly completed. The tie-in from SR-193 to 2000 W. has been finished other than some minor hand concrete work. The road is expected to open to traffic in late-December.
  • Pavement striping and sign installation will continue throughout the next two weeks.
  • Noise wall installation began last week, and will continue through the next two weeks.
  • Nearby residents and businesses should expect increased noise, light, and vibration associated with construction.
2000 West Project Team Goals

Provide a safe, high quality project that meets current and future traffic demands

  • Achieve a high level of satisfaction with motorists, property owners, and all stakeholders
  • Minimize traffic impacts and maintain safety, mobility, and access during construction
  • Safely accommodate and support pedestrian, bicycle, and transit use
  • Begin construction in the spring of 2017 with completion by November 2018
  • Complete the project under the $50 million budget
