TIMPANOGOS HIGHWAY (S.R. 92)
PROGRESS UPDATE
Traffic is flowing well on the new Timpanogos Highway (S.R. 92) mainline and drivers are already experiencing the benefits of a safer, improved roadway and interchange. UDOT continues to diligently work with the contractor to address all remaining known quality issues before accepting project completion. UDOT has a responsibility to taxpayers to not accept this project as complete until the contractor corrects any identified quality issues. By insisting that quality standards are met, UDOT is ensuring that the public gets what they paid for and that the road will last for decades to come.
Rest assured, UDOT continues to protect the taxpayer investment from additional costs by charging the contractor $15,000 a day in liquidated damages until the project reaches acceptable completion. With the remaining known work, this project could reach completion this summer.
UDOT continues to work with the contractor to limit lane closures that may be necessary to complete the remaining work to off-commute times and to isolate restrictions to areas only where they are performing work or inspections. Check the website often for updates on lane closures and other remaining work items.
The Timpanogos Highway project will bring a much-needed improvement over the previous roadway including more capacity, a smoother ride, better access to surrounding businesses and increased mobility options. With the addition of the DDI, not originally a part of the project, the interchange can now accommodate current and future traffic demands at I-15. Efficiency and commute times will also be improved with the commuter lanes, providing a no-stopping option for those traveling directly to and from I-15 from the eastern communities.
Memorial Day Weekend: All lanes on Timpanogos Highway will be available to drivers over the Memorial Day weekend. Work may occur off the shoulders but will not impact traffic. The Timpanogos Highway Project team encourages motorists to TravelWise.
Diverging Diamond Interchange Area
In the afternoon of Saturday, May 19, motorist should be aware that a slow-moving grinding operation may be present in the DDI area. Motorists will be allowed to go around the machine, but it may cause some slowing.
Monday and Tuesday, May 21-22, crews will be repairing striping in this area. No delays are expected.
Triumph Blvd. to Center Street
The outside, eastbound lane on Timpanogos Highway between Triumph Blvd and 1200 West is closed until Wednesday, May 23, for barrier work on the south side of the road. Motorists should expect some delays during the evening commute.
Highland Blvd.
Friday, May 18, at 9 p.m., through Monday, May 21, at 6 a.m., crews will close the south leg of Highland Blvd. at the intersection with Timpanogos Highway to make repairs to the pavement. During this closure patrons of the shopping area and residents on 3200 North should plan to use 1200 East to access Timpanogos Highway.
6400 West to S.R. 74
Saturday, May 19, beginning at 7 a.m., crews will be operating a slow-moving grinding operation between 6400 West and Town Center Blvd. in both directions. Motorist will be allowed to go around the machine, but it may cause some slowing. This is necessary so that crews can make repairs to the asphalt on both sides of the road. During this work each side street may be closed for up to five minutes as the grinding machine passes. Flaggers will stop traffic just long enough to allow the grinder to pass.
Monday and Tuesday, May 21-22, crews will be repairing striping in this area. No delays are expected.
ONGOING ACTIVITIES
All eastbound and westbound lanes on Timpanogos Highway are now accessible to motorists during morning and evening commute times (unless otherwise noted in New Activities). Please be aware that intermittent lane restrictions and shifts are still expected at off-commute hours through early June as the contractor works to complete work items such as curb and gutter, sidewalks, barriers, striping, grading, and final punch list work. Lane restrictions will be kept to a minimum but may be necessary to protect workers and allow space for construction equipment. Continue to watch for flaggers and remember the area remains a work zone and the posted speed limit is 45 mph.
Diverging Diamond Interchange Area
The DDI area is nearly complete. All lanes are available and all of the barrels have been removed. Interested in learning how to drive the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)? Please visit our website to view an instructional animation.
1200 West to 1200 East
The sidewalks on 1200 West remain closed to pedestrians through early June.
Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
Crews work to finish remaining staining, barriers and fencing on the commuter lane bridges at Center Street and 1200 East.
1200 East to 6400 West
At the intersection of 1200 East the signals have been adjusted to work more efficiently and traffic has been shifted into a more permanent configuration. The inside left-turn lanes for eastbound to northbound and southbound to eastbound traffic remain closed to traffic. Landscaping and other miscellaneous work continue at the entrance road to IMFT and the area remains reduced to one lane in each direction. This configuration will remain in place until early June.
All lanes on Highland Blvd. are now open including the dedicated right turn pocket for southbound to westbound traffic. Be aware of work still happening off the shoulders and use caution as workers remain in the area. Watch for flaggers in this area through the end of May.
The multi-use trail on the south side of Timpanogos Highway between Highland Blvd. and 6400 West is closed to cyclists and pedestrians through early June. For your safety, please stay out of this area.
Work remaining in this area includes final trail paving on the south side in Dry Creek, final grading/seeding, final striping, and inspection/acceptance. It is expected this work will cause intermittent lane closures through early June. Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
6400 West to S.R. 74
Crews continue to finish the landscaping in this area. Watch for periodic lane or shoulder closures during non commute hours.
Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
The UTA stop for bus 807 previously at 6400 West has moved approximately 600 feet to east of the current location.
