Frequently Asked Questions from Business Owners
How will access to my business be affected?
UDOT and its contractor will work together to maintain access through the construction work zone. However, there may be times when access points may be closed temporarily. Notifications such as email updates and electronic message signs and other communication tools will be used to let you know when a closure or restriction will take effect. It's important to communicate your concerns to the project team so that the contractor can do a better job of maintaining access. Access points are typically closed for the following activities: road excavation and utility work, placement of road base and paving operations.
We're in an economic slump and my business is down, won't the road construction project make things worse?
The economy affects everyone in numerous ways that are beyond anyone's control. UDOT and the contractor will do their best to make sure access is maintained and that you know what is going on before it happens. As a business owner you have a variety of tools at your disposal to remind current patrons or potential customers that you are open and still provide services they want or need.
With the recession, why not wait until conditions improve?
The department has the funding to build the project today. If we wait, project costs are likely to increase, making it more difficult to build what's needed.
Who do I call if there are problems, or if I have questions?
Call the project hotline at 1.877.222.3757 or email the project team at access@utah.gov.
Can I place my own promotional signs within the construction area?
Promotional signs are not allowed in construction zones, but they may be placed just outside the work area so long as it does not create a visual obstruction and remains on your side of the property line.
Construction work creates a lot of dust and noise. What can I do about it?
The contractor will work hard to keep dust and noise to a minimum. However, they can only do so much. Please be prepared to clean your place of business as necessary. If you have additional concerns, please feel free to contact the project team at 1.877.222.3757 or via email at access@utah.gov.
