WELCOME TO TIMPANOGOS HIGHWAY
Timpanogos Highway (State Route 92) is the main east-west corridor for the communities of Alpine, Highland, Cedar Hills and northeast Lehi, as well as the primary access road for American Fork Canyon. Thousands of vehicles travel this corridor every day for a variety of reasons: for access to and from I-15, local travel or recreational purposes.
This area in northern Utah County is growing at a rapid pace. In order to improve mobility and accessibility, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is expanding Timpanogos Highway from I-15 to S.R. 74 (Alpine Highway) in Highland.
With this project, UDOT will do the following:
- Widen Timpanogos Highway to five lanes from I-15 to S.R. 74.
- Build "Commuter Lanes" from I-15 to Highland Boulevard. These lanes provide a direct connection to and from I-15 without stopping at traffic signals.
- Construct segments of multi-use trails to enhance the existing trail system in the area.
Once the project is complete, Timpanogos Highway users will experience:
- An improved commute to and from I-15
- Improved and safer access at local intersections
- An expanded trail system
This $148 million project is being constructed with a combination of federal and state funds.
Winter Driving Through Construction
Please remember with snow and ice on the road, slow down and give other cars extra space, especially through the construction zone. Give yourself additional time to arrive safely this winter.
Project Schedule Update
All eastbound and westbound lanes on Timpanogos Highway are now accessible to motorists during morning and evening commute times. Please be aware that intermittent lane restrictions and shifts are still expected at off-commute hours for at least the next two months.
We encourage you to stay actively engaged in the progress of the final stages of the project by signing up for weekly email updates and frequently visiting this website. You may also contact the project team at access@utah.gov and 877-222-3757.
The Timpanogos Highway project will bring a much-needed improvement over the previous roadway including more capacity, a smoother ride, better access to surrounding businesses and increased mobility options. With the addition of the DDI, not originally a part of the project, the interchange can now accommodate current and future traffic demands at I-15. Efficiency and commute times will also be improved with the commuter lanes, providing a no-stopping option for those traveling directly to and from I-15 from the eastern communities.
Thank you for your continued patience as we complete the project for your future convenience.
East Frontage Road to 1200 East
The new connection and signal at 1200 West to Timpanogos Highway is now open to the public. Work will continue off the roadway. Please slow down and use caution in the area. The sidewalks will remain closed to pedestrians as work continues.
Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 p.m., until Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 a.m., the outside or right westbound lane between Center Street and the East Frontage Road will be closed for concrete work. Please slow down and watch for workers near the travel lane.
Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 9 a.m., until Friday, Feb. 10, at 7 a.m., the inside or left westbound lane between Center Street and the East Frontage Road will be closed for concrete work.
1200 East to Highland Blvd.
Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m., until Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 a.m., the outside or right eastbound lane between 1200 East and Highland Blvd. will be closed for concrete work. Please slow down and watch for workers near the travel lane.
This week, crews will be working to install center medians at the two entrances to Center Pointe Shopping (Smith's Marketplace). During this work motorists can expect to see flaggers and lane reductions but no full closures of either access point. Please use caution and expect some delay.
Ongoing activities
All eastbound and westbound lanes on Timpanogos Highway are now accessible to motorists during morning and evening commute times (unless otherwise noted in New Activities). Please be aware that intermittent lane restrictions and shifts are still expected at off-commute hours for at least the next two months as the contractor works to complete work items such as curb and gutter, sidewalks, barriers, striping and grading. Lane restrictions will be kept to a minimum but may be necessary to protect workers and allow space for construction equipment. Continue to watch for flaggers and remember the area remains a work zone and the posted speed limit is 45 mph.
Diverging Diamond Interchange AreaAt the DDI, crews are working to finish miscellaneous punch-list items such as correcting catch basins that are not draining properly. All lanes are open during the morning and evening commute times, but motorists should expect intermittent lane closures during the day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. through the end of February.
The interchange has now been converted to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Please visit our website to view an instructional animation on driving a DDI.
Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
Crews continue working on the commuter lane bridges at Center Street and 1200 East. Some of the work remaining on these bridges are temperature sensitive and cannot be completed until sustained warmer weather is achieved. It is anticipated that the commuter lanes will not be completely open until spring of this year. Other work includes barriers, fencing, and remaining concrete paving in the area of Highland Blvd.
Watch for a slight traffic shift near 6400 West for westbound traffic. Please slow down in this area.
Work remaining in this area includes trail paving on the south side of the Dry Creek area, shoulders along both sides of Timpanogos Highway, curb and gutter in multiple locations, final grading/seeding, final striping, and inspection/acceptance. It is expected this work will cause intermittent daily lane closures through March. Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
Traffic remains shifted to the east on the north leg of Highland Blvd. so workers can finish building the commuter lane on the west side of the road. Watch for traffic shifts and flaggers in this area through March.
The main entrance to Center Pointe Shopping is now open as a right-in, right-out. Patrons may now use any of the four entrances to access the businesses in this area.
Please slow down and remember the area remains a work zone and the speed limit is 45 mph.
The UTA stop for bus 807 previously at 6400 West has moved approximately 600 feet to east of the current location.
**All dates are subject to change due to weather-related issues.**
