Welcome to the Syracuse Road Project Web Site
UDOT is widening Syracuse Road in Syracuse (Antelope Drive) to five lanes - two travel lanes in each direction with a center lane and dedicated bike lanes - from 1000 West to 2000 West. The widened roadway will improve traffic flow in the area and improve safety for local, commuter, and tourist traffic. This project will be completed using a design process intended to shorten the overall timeline and therefore, the impacts to the public. (see details below) The project has progressed through an environmental study and the design phase is now coming to a close. Construction on the project will begin in the late fall of 2008 and end in fall 2009.

The Syracuse Road Design Process is Innovative
In a traditional construction project, UDOT brings a contractor on for the construction phase only. The Syracuse Road project is innovative in that a contractor will be brought on during the last phase of design. This contractor provides feedback to the designers to help with the contructability of the design. Having this type of feedback serves to improve the overall design and to keep the project on schedule and within budget. UDOT has had success with this process and expects that it will be very effective for Syracuse Road.
