Welcome to the Syracuse Road Project Web Site

UDOT is widening Syracuse Road (Antelope Drive) from 1000 West to 2000 West to five lanes - two travel lanes in each direction with a center lane and dedicated bike lanes. The widened roadway will improve traffic flow in the area and improve safety for  local, commuter, and tourist traffic.  Construction on the project begins in late February 2009 is anticipated to conclude in late spring 2010.

Geneva Rock and Syracuse City pitch in together to help Syracuse High School

A concerned citizen approached Syracuse city recently about the lack of a safe access to the school for students who walk from the east. There is no sidewalk in that area, so students had to wander in the roadway or in the mud on the side of the road. The City didn’t have money allocated to provide materials to make it more accessible, but they offered to provide the labor and equipment if someone would donate the roadbase. This same citizen approached Geneva Rock and asked if they would be willing and able to donate the necessary material; which they did. About a week and a half ago, Syracuse city built the temporary walkway along the side of the road so these students would feel more safe as they walked to school.

The Syracuse Road Design Process is Innovative

In a traditional construction project, UDOT brings a contractor on for the construction phase only.  On the Syracuse Road project a contractor was brought on during the last phase of design.  The contractor provided feedback to the designers to help with the contructability of the design.  This type of feedback served to shorten the schedule and save money on this project.
