TRAX BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
INTERSECTION CLOSURE
Beginning August 18, the east side of the intersection at 7800 South and State Street will be closed for TWO WEEKS.
There will be no access to or from 7800 South to State Street in either direction. Suggested detour routes are 8000 South to 700 East or 7200 South to 900 East.
This closure will allow crews uninterrupted access to complete storm drain, gutter, and sidewalk preparation. North and Southbound traffic on State Street will not be impacted.
Due to the significant impact of this closure, UDOT and the TRAX Bridge Project Team conducted an online survey and random telephone polling to solicit input from area residents, businesses, and commuters before beginning the closure. Two options were proposed.
1) Close half of the intersection at a time, reducing 7800 South to a single lane at the intersection with State Street. This closure would have required 7 to 8 weeks for completion and would have increased congestion and delays in the area during peak drive times.
2) Close the intersection to all traffic for two weeks so that work could continue uninterrupted.
93% of survey respondents preferred the second option, noting that it was a larger impact but a shorter and more tolerable duration.
State Street traffic restrictions will remain in place as TRAX Bridge crews continue to install rebar and pour footings.
State Street Day Time Lane Restrictions
WHAT: NB & SB State Street will be restricted to one lane each direction during daytime
hours. Left-turn lanes in the median will remain open but subject to temporary closures as needed.
WHEN: Ongoing
WHERE: State Street from 7720 S. to 8000 S.
Access to businesses will remain open with minimal access restrictions, please continue to provide your support.
Pedestrian access is closed in the work zone on State Street. West Center (7720 S) or West Wasatch (8000 S) to Roosevelt are suggested as an alternate route.
Commuters should anticipate traffic delays during peak commute hours and take alternate routes if possible.

Project Overview:
Work on the State Street TRAX Bridge project is underway.
Construction on this project will replace the historic single-span UTA TRAX Bridge over US-89 with a double span structure, providing a second TRAX track in that location. Areas of State Street below the bridge structure will be widened, and drainage will be improved in the area. Landscaping, pedestrian walkways, and six large murals depicting historic Midvale themes will add aesthetic appeal to the new bridge, which has been designed to reflect the art deco style of the old bridge.
The project is anticipated to last approximately two years and will involve some nighttime work and lane closures. Construction will be phased to allow continued TRAX service.
Please remember speeding fines double in the work zone, so allow plenty of time to arrive at your destination. Watch out for workers and their equipment working on or near the road.
