Environmental Study of the Vineyard Connector Project

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has completed an Environmental Study of the Vineyard Connector, a new state road that is proposed for northern Utah County. The Environmental Study focuses on expected impacts of the project to the natural and built environments along the proposed alignment.

The Vineyard Connector would be a new limited access arterial roadway on the west side of I-15 between about Lehi 1000 West and American Fork Main Street and about 800 North and I-15 in Orem. On the north, the new road would connect to a redesigned American Fork Main Street/I-15 interchange and to Pioneer Crossing, both of which are under construction. On the south, the new road would connect to Orem 800 North just west of I-15.

The Vineyard Connector would have four travel lanes and a raised median with breaks for turn lanes at major intersections. UDOT is working with the cities of American Fork, Lindon, Vineyard and Orem to determine the type of pedestrian facility that is desired by each community. The road would have an 8-foot shoulder, curb, gutter, park strip, and sidewalks on both sides of the road or an 8-foot shoulder, curb, gutter, park strip, and a 10-foot wide asphalt trail on one side of the road. The Vineyard Connector would have signalized intersections at some existing cross roads in the near future, with additional intersection signalization installed as warranted. Because connectivity to local roads is so important in this part of Utah County, UDOT is also proposing some minor widening and shoulder improvements to American Fork 500 East, Proctor Lane in Lindon, the access road to the Lindon Boat Harbor, and to the intersection of the Vineyard Connector and Geneva Road. UDOT expects to begin construction of the Vineyard Connector upon funding approval by the State Legislature.
