UDOT Places Beams for New U.S. 89 Interchange in Layton
March 25, 2021
In March of 2021 crews from UDOT’s U.S. 89 project placed nine beams for a new interchange bridge at Gordon Avenue in Layton. Check out the time-lapse video below:
These beams were placed over the future southbound lanes of U.S. 89. During construction in this area, both directions were temporarily shifted to the southbound lanes. The other nine beams, which will span the future northbound lanes were also placed in March of 2021.
UDOT is widening U.S. 89 to three lanes in both directions between Main Street in Farmington and S.R. 193 in Layton. The project is also removing all existing cross-street intersections and building four new freeway-style interchanges with on- and off-ramps at 200 North/400 North in Fruit Heights and Oak Hills Drive, Gordon Avenue and Antelope Drive in Layton. Two new overpasses are being built at Nicholls Road and Crestwood Road, with those local streets crossing over U.S. 89, and new frontage roads on both sides of the highway are being constructed to help maintain access to local neighborhoods.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2023.
