The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is completing a safety improvement project at the intersection of 5500 South and 5100 West in Hooper. The project will improve safety and traffic flow by adding turn lanes on 5500 South and replacing and lowering the canal box culvert to improve sight distance for drivers turning at the intersection.  

5/15/20 Construction Update

• Crews tentatively plan to chip seal the intersection on May 18, apply a final seal coat on May 26 and then return during the week of June 1 to apply final roadway striping. Topsoil, sod and seed will be placed May 20-22.
• 5100 West has been reopened to traffic.

WHAT TO EXPECT

• Crews expect to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction on 5500 South through most of construction. intermittent flagging operations may be necessary at times during off-peak hours.
• 5100 West will be closed on both north and south sides of the intersection to accommodate the work. 
• Lanes will be narrowed through the intersection and motorists are advised to reduce speeds, watch for lane shifts and use alternate routes when travel is time-sensitive.

CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE
Following is the tentative construction schedule. Please note that construction schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, emergency situations or equipment/supply issues. 

• Early March: Preliminary utility relocations
• Mid-March to Early June: Intersection reconstruction
• March 12 to Mid-May: 5100 West will be closed on both north and south sides of the intersection. Residential access will be maintained. Detours will be in place.
• Early June: Substantial project completion
