In early March 2016, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) began designing a project to improve State Route 9 between Rockville and Zion National Park. The project was split into two segments and the first segment in Rockville was completed in spring 2017. Construction was completed on the second segment in Springdale in May 2018.
