SR-24/SR-12; Asphalt Rehabilitations
This project adds a new layer of pavement to the road on SR-24 from Bicknell to Torrey and on SR12 from Torrey to the Indian Bench OHV Trail. It also improves safety features by upgrading signs and barriers.
Current work on SR-24 is focused on laying pavement between Bicknell and Torrey. If temperatures remain high enough, paving could be placed on SR-12 this season from Torrey to approximately Grover. Otherwise, paving down SR-12 will most likely resume in the spring.
Due to the limited number of lanes and work space, traffic must alternate through the construction zone. There are signals at each end of the work zone with a pilot car shuttling vehicles through the work. Delays of up to 15 minutes are possible. Vehicles on the side streets connecting to the highway should wait until the traffic queue is headed in the same direction of travel needed and join at the end of the queue. Lane closures are required for both paving activities as well as delineator and guardrail placement.
The contractor will generally be working Monday - Friday. But weekend work is anticipated to continue as long as temperatures remain high enough to pave.
This project is valued at $9.6 million. Construction began in October and is expected to reach completion early next summer.
